With this addition, you can now play as the natives of the Americas or launch a colonial revolution to throw off the chains of the empires. The expansion plays smoothly and has no problems with crashing. When you start, you will be able to choose one of many nations. Each has its unique advantages and playstyles, which give the game a lot of replayability.
The player must build up their base and military to battle it out against the other players, AI or real. There also is a campaign that throws you into different situations to challenge you.
It gets progressively harder with new units getting unlocked as it goes on. This expansion brings a new campaign to the table in which you get to play in the Americas and experience the conflicts between the colonisers and the colonised.
Also, colonies are now allowed to revolt against their overlords. Stealth is a new addition. New units that are not automatically seen have been added, allowing you to sneak your way into enemy territory- This is unlike the prior automatic detection. Age of Empires 2 is the predecessor to this game and varies fairly. The main difference is in the complexity, with the earlier edition being much more difficult to play. Also, AoE 3 has significantly faster playtime. Expansion packs often go one of two ways.
Either an entirely new gameplay feature is added, often to fix gameplay imbalances or slip in a feature that wasn't ready for the initial release, or new content is added without significant changes to the gameplay. Age of Empires: War Chiefs falls into the second category which isn't a bad thing when the original gameplay is already well balanced and has depth.
There are a few new building and features to take advantage of such as the fire pit which gives nice bonuses and a new victory condition based on trading monopolies but if you take the fresh coat of paint off, it's still the same basic game. Again, when the core game starts out as strong as AoE III, tinkering with the gameplay can cause more problems but Age of Empires: War Chiefs isn't going to offer an entirely new experience either. One aspect that helps to bring a new feel however is the campaign missions.
As you might expect, the stories are told well and keep you pushing to see what happens next. Other areas like the graphics and audio look similar to AoE III but the strength and longevity of Age of Empires: War Chiefs is likely in the multiplayer capabilities anyway.
