In this English-language remake of a deconstruction in the way violence is portrayed in the media, a family settles into its vacation home, which happens to be the next stop for a pair of young, articulate, white-gloved serial killers on an excursion through the neighborhood.

Shall we begin? Rated R for terror, violence and some language. Did you know Edit. Trivia Tim Roth has said making this film traumatized him, and he'll never watch it. He said he was particularly disturbed because Devon Gearhart resembled his own son.

Goofs When Paul "rewinds" the film he presses the Volume Down - button on the remote control rather than the Rewind button. Quotes Anna : Why don't you just kill us? User reviews Review. Top review. Reviewed after second viewing. However, half way through a second viewing, I decided I couldn't take any more and turned it off. Some may say that's a sure sign that it's a bad movie. They may be right - even its star Tim Roth has since refused to watch it. The film is actually an American version filmed shot for shot of an Austrian 'home invasion' movie and is supposed to be about 'the nature of violence.

It's about a family who get held hostage in their own holiday home by two nasty - yet annoyingly polite - young psychopaths. I guess the reason I turned it off is because it was just too frustrating to watch.

I practically wanted to jump into the TV armed with a chainsaw and If you don't know about the film, I won't spoil the 'weirder' bits. It's definitely not a horror film, as there isn't much blood and gore what there is happens off screen. It's more an experience in frustration making statements about the audience's desire to witness blood and gore on the big screen.

Paul : [talking to the viewers, breaking the fourth wall] You're on their side, aren't you? So, who will you bet with? Sign In. Crime Drama Thriller. Two violent young men take a mother, father, and son hostage in their vacation cabin and force them to play sadistic "games" with one another for their own amusement.

Two seemingly well-educated young men, who call each other Paul and Peter among other names, approach a family on vacation. They are, apparently, friends of the neighbors, and, at the beginning, their true intentions are not known, but soon, the family is imprisoned and tortured in its own house violently, which the viewers are forced mostly to imagine and to share a certain complicity with the criminals.

It might be some kind of game with the lives of husband, wife, son, and dog, but why are they doing it? Ein Alptraum. Not Rated. Did you know Edit. Goofs When Anna and Georg are driving in their car, a reflection of a microphone between the front seats can be seen on the window.

Quotes [subtitled version] Paul : [talking to the viewers, breaking the fourth wall] You're on their side, aren't you? User reviews Review. Top review. Why Are You Watching This? Unlike my other reviews that have been about the films themselves, this will describe the effect it had on me. Just to clarify, I am an year-old Brit who has seen more than his fair share of violent films, and I thought I could take the content of this one.

When I noticed in a listing magazine that Funny Games was being shown, I looked forward to it.
