James Wes Martin. In reply to James Wes Martin's post on September 1, Hi James I would suggust you remove the drive in device manger, shut down windows, remove the power cable to the drive, restart windows to make sure it not there anymore, if not found shut down windows, replace power cable to drive, let windows find it, then go to device manger and see if update driver is now not greyed out and you can update the driver via online search.
In reply to Fastclaw's post on September 2, In reply to James Wes Martin's post on September 2, In reply to James Wes Martin's post on September 3, If none of the previous suggestions worked, then it means the hardware manufacturer has not provided Microsoft with updated Drivers to include in Windows update.
You should go to the manufacturer's support site and check for Windows 10 compatible updates. In reply to Erdeslawe's post on September 3, In reply to A. User's post on September 1, My drive still doesnt function, it does three clicks and then again five times then stops i run the cyberlink suite with a samsung bd SE drive. It reads BD discs for a few minutes then stops and doesnt read dvd's any more since windows I tried several thigs and i am familiar with widnows device manager quite well.
But I have not noticed that the drive is actually named as a intio usb device. That I missed. I wanted to watch movie with my GF and instead I started to backup things to finally reinstall my windows. But actually everything works now. So my windows is not bad at all. Scanned for new hardware no reboot and the Asus drive showed up as expected. Let us know if it does. Thank you once again for your help —forum— This is the 2nd time, I had this last on my Win 7 as a problem.
Repeat the steps about uninstalling the driver and unplugging the device. Close Device manager 3. Replug the device. Thank you a lot from Rome. No one of these tips worked. Thanks, I was actually directed to this site by Asus engineers as a fix to my problem.
This worked! Thanks, Man! Your post helped me out big time! External DVD Drive! If the lads at Microsoft were running hospitals people would be dying!
Unbelievable — this two year-old post is still correct. My drive had been working fine for over a year, and one day just stopped. I never even noticed the Initio device before. I was ready to start tearing my hair out! Thank you!!!!! Just fyi there is no need to reboot, or shut down the computer… there would be no difference between the two btw, assuming there was a valid reason to do so..
This was driving me crazy!! I could not imagine what was going wrong!! I searched Google, your fix was fourth in the search results and bam!
Thank you so much for taking the time to post the fix you found!! I seem to remember the category has the same name as the device, i. Update on my fix. I didnt see any Initio default controller but I would see 4 drivers associated to my burner. Reinstalled the burner after rebooting and it worked great.
And thankfully it worked again. Thank you one million times. This has been driving me mad for 2 months. Thank you so much for this! I was minutes away from returning my Asus external driver altogether! Thanks very much for posting this. Still a problem in Microsoft? It really works , and he is very serious when he says follow it to the letter, first run no go second run nailed it. Thanks windows 10 for giving all of us a run around.
But your instruction help!!!!! Thanks so much for this fix. Thank you! What a lifesaver. We have several Asus Blu-ray external drives in our office that suddenly stopped working. Same as with everyone else, this happened after a Win10 update. I have spent hours researching, nothing worked until this solution! Thank you very much. After wasting hours with the useless advice provided by Microsoft, I found your page.
Now it works again. Have been trying to get this expensive little thing to work for a few years now, off and on.
Windows 10 Pro OS build I would also like to join in the song of praise for those who took the trouble to let us know how to overcome this annoying situation.
But then it would if I plugged into only a certain USB port on the motherboard. Thank you!! I got a new comp, and forgot about this fix, and remembered that this worked! Shooting a bump comment so others know this works!
